The Doty Debate
THE DOTY DEBATE 🔥
If there was any doubt that sprint car racing still knows how to spark a debate, the Brad Doty Classic erased it.
Kyle Larson’s aggressive racing style has fans split right down the middle. One side says he races World of Outlaws competitors differently than he does High Limit Racing. The other side says that’s simply who Kyle Larson has always been—living on the ragged edge, driving harder than almost anyone in the sport, regardless of the sanctioning body.
The incident involving Carson Macedo only poured gasoline on an already burning rivalry. Some believe Larson drove over his head and created the situation. Others argue Larson spun on his own, Macedo had nowhere to go, and it was nothing more than an unfortunate racing incident.
Then came the biggest twist of the night…
While everyone was focused on the heavyweights, 19-year-old Ohio native Bryce Lucius delivered the story of a lifetime. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Lucius held off Logan Schuchart to score his first career World of Outlaws victory in one of sprint car racing’s most prestigious events—the Brad Doty Classic. It was a storybook moment for the young driver and another reminder that this sport can crown a new hero at any time.
The win also adds even more momentum to what’s becoming a breakout stretch. Lucius has been turning heads during his recent stint in Central Pennsylvania with the Heffner Racing 27H, and he’ll stay with the team this week as they head to Eldora Speedway for the Kings Royal, giving him another opportunity to prove Tuesday night’s victory was no fluke.
Whether you blame Larson, defend him, or fall somewhere in the middle, one thing is undeniable:
People are talking. Passionately.
That’s what makes sprint car racing special. Every fan sees the race through a different visor, and sometimes there isn’t a universally “right” answer.
But while the debate rages on, let’s not lose sight of the biggest headline:
Bryce Lucius didn’t just win a race—he announced himself to the sprint car world.
So let’s hear it…
Was it just hard racing?
A racing incident?
Or did Larson cross the line?
